4. The Backstory, setting and what you need to know

We are playing 5th Edition D&D.

The setting is Faerun, a magical world full of humans, dwarves, elves, orcs, dragons and magic. There are gods and demons and different planes of existence

Faerun is much like Middle Earth, Westeros, Skyrim and other medieval fantasy landscapes you might be familiar with.

Most Dungeons and Dragons games take place in the setting of Faerun but every game is unique and belongs to its players.

What is especially unique to our game is this:

100 years ago a magical catastrophe of world-altering impact struck Faerun and the continent of Shaar was shattered and broke away from the mainland. It disappeared among magical storms for over a century, it's immense cities and temples and forests and mountains thought lost forever. 

But it has resurfaced. Known by many names, the Forged Lands, the Broken Continent, the Shattered Island... Pioneers and prospectors alike have been making the dangerous journey from the mainland through the only known safe ocean route, looking to uncover lost cities, treasure hordes, magical artefacts and weapons. 

The safe town of Sanctuary has been established, but the island is unmapped. This is where we come in. Adventurers, explorers and treasure seekers, we aim to map out the continent and conquer the terrors we find within. Every character is here for a reason. Perhaps seeking out the truth of their family heritage or on the run from a criminal past. What is your reason?
